Letter from The Queen

Black Skull Indoor Melody Contest 2007

The band travelled to Glasgow to take part in, and support, the Black Skull Corps of Drum's indoor melody contest. This was the first time the band had taken part in this contest. Our aim was to play as varied a programme as possible, and we believe we did so.

Our programme consisted of some tunes included on the Death or Glory CD (namely Lanigan's Ball & Jigs, Cossack Patrol, Stars & Stripes, and Washington Grays), as well as playing Elizabethan Serenade, and Cross of Honour. The other two tunes we played on the night were a 2 and 10 jig, and Shanghai Lil. We played the jig to give the impression of a band approaching from afar, passing, and fading again in the distance. The Shanghai Lil and Lilio, showed our range of percussion as it included the playing of a side drum, bass drum, cymbals, long drum, djembe and rototoms.

The band had a brilliant night, winning all sections of the contest. More importantly, we thoroughly enjoyed playing and taking part, and were delighted that the audience enjoyed it also. We all had a great time in Glasgow.

The links below are recordings of our live performances that day.

The full DVD of the Black Skull Indoor Melody Contest is now available and we would encourage anyone to purchase a copy as the sound and quality of the DVD and participating bands, is of a very high standard. The DVD is available from the Black Skull themselves, as well as various other outlets.
